How long does it take to climb Mount Bromo?

The trail to the top of Mount Bromo Summit is free. It takes about 20-30 minutes depending on how quickly you can haul yourself up the sandy slope. Many tourists decide it is a good idea to have a horse haul them up the hill.

How to climb Mount Bromo?

Mount Bromo is an easy climb and is more about exploring the expansive crater. Generally, people start from the Mount Penanjakan viewpoint (technically, Mount Bromo is the small volcanic dome in the middle of the crater) at sunrise.

Then you descend into the caldera, and either walk, ride a horse or take a motorbike to the base of Bromo in the middle of the caldera.

Time to climb

Mt. Bromo volcano in East Java is the active cone inside the giant Tengger caldera, one of Indonesia’s most scenic location destinations in East Java, famous for its magnificent sunrise views and the panorama over the caldera with Semeru volcano in the background.

Kawah Ijen

Indonesia’s Kawah Ijen Volcano, on the island of Java, has two of the most unusual occurrences on Earth. The first is an active solfatara that emits hot, flammable sulfurous gases. These ignite as they enter Earth’s oxygen-rich atmosphere and burn with an electric blue flame. Some of the gas condenses in the atmosphere to produce flows of molten sulfur that also burn with an electric blue flame. The flames are difficult to see during the day but illuminate the landscape at night.

The second occurrence is a one-kilometer-wide caldera lake filled with turquoise-blue water. The color of the water is a result of its extreme acidity and a high concentration of dissolved metals. It is the world’s largest highly acidic lake with a measured pH as low as 0.5. The cause of its acidity is an inflow of hydrothermal waters charged with gases from a hot magma chamber below.

Day 02.  Mount Bromo sunrise tour – Ijen | Bromo Ijen

You will be wakened up at 03.00 a.m., have a cup of coffee or tea before we leave for a short drive – 40 minutes – to Pananjakan, the highest viewpoint in the area to see the sunrise. But, of course, whether you can see the sunrise depends on the weather conditions. Then we will descend to the Sea of Sand to see the crater of mount Bromo.

Afterward, we go back to the hotel to have breakfast. After that, we continue our trip and drive around 4 hours to Pasir Putih Beach to have lunch at a beachside restaurant.

Day 03. Ijen trekking – Surabaya |Bromo Ijen

Around 01:00 am, the Ijen expedition team, will bring you to the parking area of Mount Ijen, around 50 minutes from the hotel. This trip crossed the arabica coffee plantation. After arrival at the parking area, continued trekking to the Ijen crater it’s needed around 1.5 until 2 hours. trekking to the Ijen crater about 3Km ( 2.386m ). enjoying the wonderful blue fire/blue flame and acid lake.

After sunrise, the Ijen expedition team will bring you back to the parking area, on the way you can see the beautiful panorama and the sulfur miners. How long does it take to climb Mount Bromo?

The trail to the top of Mount Bromo Summit is free. It takes about 20-30 minutes depending on how quickly you can haul yourself up the sandy slope. Many tourists decide it is a good idea to have a horse haul them up the hill.

How to climb Mount Bromo?

Mount Bromo is an easy climb and is more about exploring the expansive crater. Generally, people start from the Mount Penanjakan viewpoint (technically, Mount Bromo is the small volcanic dome in the middle of the crater) at sunrise.

Then you descend into the caldera, and either walk, ride a horse or take a motorbike to the base of Bromo in the middle of the caldera.

If it’s safe, guides will help you scramble to the top of the volcanic dome, otherwise, you can explore other parts of the caldera. An entrance ticket must be bought at the Park entrance. Getting to the first viewpoint can be done by jeep.

Time to climb

Most tourists spend the night at the nearby village of Cemero Lawang and opt for a jeep ride up the viewing points on Mount Penanjakan and down to the Sea of Sand before arriving at the base of Mount Bromo, from where everyone walks up the stairs to the edge of the crater.

If you are opting for jeep and horse rides to Mount Bromo and back and only scaling the stairs on foot, the entire trip will take you less than half a day.

Mount Bromo Tumpak Sewu tour | Day 01: Arrival / Pick up From Surabaya

The first day of the tour is just a meeting and pick-up day for anyone who joins the tour. There will be a meeting point informed by the tour administrator for everyone to go to on the first day. At the meeting point, there may be some minutes of wait for the rest of the tourists to arrive before departing to the area of Mount Bromo. It takes about 3 to 4 hours of driving to reach the accommodation spot close to Mount Bromo. Around the area is the beautiful view of the Tengger Mountains to admire and capture while resting.

Day 02: Bromo Volcano

The second day is the time to get serious about enjoying the natural beauty of Mount Bromo. Sunrise is amidst the attractions of the day so the tour will start early at 3 AM. A Jeep ride for about 1 hour to the sunrise view of Mount Penanjakan is a ride to get excited too. As long as the weather is nice and the sky is clear there will always be a golden sunrise to watch and capture. The background of the view includes the tip of Mount Batok, Mount Bromo, and Mount Semeru just above the beautiful sea of clouds.

The Ijen Crater | Bromo Ijen Tour

Ijen crater is a large upland area that includes the peaks and foothills of Mt.Ijen, Mt.Raung, Mt.Suket and Mt.Merapi plus several smaller peaks. The highlight of this area is Ijen crater lake, a large crater lake atop a dormant volcano.

The color of the lake is astonishing. A combination of the yellow sulfur and the brownish-red rocks surrounding makes a beautiful blue-greenish lake. There is some access to the crater, but most people start to hike from Pal Tuding. From this point, we need to hike for 3km or 90mins uphill through the forest.

Approximately 1 to 1.5 hours will be required to ascend the slope of mount Ijen to reach the peak of Ijen Crater and along the path, You will enjoy the stunning natural scenery with fresh air & shade. Rest on the edge of the crater at an altitude of 2883 meters and enjoy the best panorama of the lake of sulfate which reflects a spectacular view in the surrounding walls to give the impression of doom.
